Reading Manahawa ripped my heart out and captured the heart of a spy. Now I need to know why. When a truce is finally called, a half-girl named Cordelia is sent to the royal court as a sign of peace. As Ariel, Bailey will be “amazing” in the film.
In the cover story for Variety , Bailey stayed private about what her official transformation as Ariel will look like, revealing that her character will have signature red braids
“She looks that beautiful with her red hair – not everyone sees her,” said the film’s director Rob Marshall. The director says her vocal skills are just as impressive.
“When it was over, I was crying because it’s so emotional,” Marshall said of the release of Bailey’s debut single, “Part of Your World.” “You can tell right away that he was able to use Aria’s love, her fire, her spirit, her humor and her heart.”
Melissa McCarthy as Ursula
The two-time Oscar nominee and comedy superstar plays the Wicked Sea Witch and even wrote a few songs for the film! Early news of her audition got a mixed reaction online, as some fans speculated that Lizzo (who threw her name in the ring months ago) would be the star, and the result would be “Failed Souls” in 2021/2022
Jonahour-King as King Eric
For what seems like an eternity, there was some hope in the world that our next King Eric would be none other than Harry Styles. Needless to say, it doesn’t, BUT don’t think Disney is constantly contacting us. Born in London, Jonah looks a bit/maybe/really/definitely like Prince Eric! I mean, look! to! he!
Javier Bardem as King Triton.
Of course, the Hollywood Reporter has more casting news for 2019, when the magazine announced that Javier Bardem will play Ariel’s father and Sea King Triton. The Spanish actor won an Oscar for playing an assassin in No Country for Old Men, so it’s nice to see him land a completely anti-Disney role. But who knows, maybe Xavier will stay in his villainous streak, and Atlantica will be awesome.
David Diggs plays Sebastian
TBH we all need entertainers. I mean, Hamilton fans know how good David is in satirical roles (does the name Thomas Jefferson ring a bell?), so it makes sense that he’s a true Broadway student because he does make Sebastian very interesting. And… imagine how good he’d be in a complete dance number. Yes, I’m ready for that.
Most of the songs will be the same, but there will also be NEW MERMAID MUSIC.
It wouldn’t be a Disney comeback without some original music from Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. (PSA: The OG Movie won Oscars for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for “Under the Sea.”) Disney knows exactly what to do to make this new film a success – the cast of Broadway talented Lin- entrant Manuel Miranda and Moana From Moana – and from Hamilton!
In February 2022, Miranda gave an update on the film’s soundtrack during a discussion on the Variety Awards Circuit podcast. Despite saying that he personally won’t see a dirty cut of the movie for over a month, Lin-Manuel promised that all of classic animation fans’ favorite songs are still in the new movie but he teased one of them o new songs (usually). There are “three or four”, apparently) he and Menken wrote – one Ariel de Halle starred in the second half of the film (yes, that would be the part where the character doesn’t have a voice).
“[Director] Rob [Marshall] found a way to hear Ariel, even though she couldn’t speak for so long. We wrote songs [about] his time on earth. He was walking on multiple steps for the first time, as in being a one-legged person for the first time, so we have to focus on everything musically,” Lin-Manuel explained
Lin-Manuel said the final word on what the film has to do with music belongs to Mencken, who wrote the lyrics and score for the 1989 film.
“If something doesn’t feel right with Alan, he’ll let you know,” she said of the 72-year-old Disney veteran. “He’s very much a guy with, like, heart and ideas on his sleeve. He also brands with the song like he did with the original.
And if you think Lin-Manuel stole spoilers from Little Mermaid’s music, he made it clear that he’ll trash the film himself and has no idea what the final soundtrack will be – not the ceiling.
He added: “The little snake has no bigger side than me. “But we have certain songwriting styles that I’d like to see for someone else. I’m in the dark like everyone else, really.
